CLEVELANDURBANNEWS.COM-CLEVELAND, Ohio- Ohio 11th Congressional District Congresswoman Marcia L. Fudge, a Warrensville Heights Democrat, has announced her new communications director for her Washington, D.C. office.
“Effective today, Bernadine A. Williams Stallings is the communications director for my office," said Fudge in a recent press release to ClevelandUrbanNews.Com and the KathyWrayColemanOnlineNewsBlog.Com, Ohio's most read digital Black newspapers.
A former Warrensville Heights mayor, Fudge, also a former chair of the Congressional Black Caucus, is one of two Blacks in congress from Ohio, the other of whom is Congresswoman Joyce Beatty of Columbus, who is also a Democrat.
“Bernadine brings an additional Midwestern perspective to the team, and has an understanding of the issues that matter to our communities," the congresswoman said. "She is committed to supporting the work of the 11th congressional district of Ohio and its people and I am pleased to have her lead our strategic communication operations.”
Ohio's 11th congressional district includes major parts of the majority Black city of Cleveland, mainly its majority Black east side. And it includes a largely Black pocket of neighboring Akron, Ohio, a largely White city some 30 miles southeast of Cleveland with a population of roughly 200,000 people. It also encompasses staggering suburbs of Summit and Cuyahoga counties, several eastern suburbs of Cuyahoga County in fact.
The ninth congressional district, which is represented by Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur, a Toledo Democrat and the longest serving woman in congress, includes parts of Cleveland also, mainly its largest White west side areas, though Fudge's congressional district does stretch to the city's near west side.
There she developed communications strategy, managed digital media platforms, coordinated press activities, served as speechwriter and publications editor, and helped develop program-specific public relations campaigns," the press release says.
A graduate of the University of Michigan where she earned a bachelor’s degree with a major in English, which is coupled with a master's degree from Wayne State University in journalism, Stallings, who is Black, has also worked as a freelance writer.
