The finals series is the best of seven games.
Until losing the last two of the four games against Golden State at Quicken Loans Arena, the Cavs, led by head coach Tyronn Lue, were 8-1 in the post season at home, losing only game one against Indiana in the opening round of the series.

Speaking on the drastic change in the roster that saw six Cavaliers' players traded in mid-February, Lue said after the game that "it was a tough season and we went through a lot, but I think it made us tougher, I think it made us stronger."

It was the fourth consecutive NBA Finals match up between the Cavs and the Warriors, the Cavs winning the title only in 2016.
The Warriors won their first title in 1975 and it took them 40 years to win another one, Golden State this year winning its third title in the last four years.
The Cavaliers trailed the entire Game 4 on Friday, and were down by an embarrassing 21 points at the end of the third quarter, Cleveland unable to overcome the greatness of Stephen Curry, and Kevin Durant, and the talent of Drayvon Green, Klay Thompson, and Andre Iguodala, the quintet that helped to bring an NBA championship title for the Warriors against the Cavs in 2017.
Durrant, 29, won the finals most valuable player (MVP) trophy for the second time in two years and said it was about the journey and the camaraderie with his teammates.
"Getting up going to work everyday with these guys was amazing," said Durrant. "The environment is incredible."
Curry, 30, said experience mattered in winning.
"We used the experience last year to our advantage," said Curry, a two-time finals MVP who finished game four with 37 points. "We knew they were going to come out with a top first bunch and we answered and ran right back at them and set the tone for the whole game."
Curry gave credit to Warriors coach Steve Kerr.
"This was the hardest year we've had of the three championships by far," Kerr said. "These guys are not only incredibly talented but they are selfless and they play for each other, and you see the result."
Widely regarded as one of the greatest NBA players of all time, James has "won three NBA championships, four NBA Most Valuable Player Awards, three NBA Finals MVP Awards, three NBA All-Star Game MVP Awards, two Olympic gold medals, an NBA scoring title, and the NBA Rookie of the Year Award. James is a 14-time NBA All-Star, 11-time All-NBA first teamer, and five-time All-Defensive first teamer."
James is "the Cavaliers' all-time scoring leader, the NBA All-Star Game career scoring leader, and the NBA career playoff scoring leader."
