Dubbed the "Cleveland March Against ICE," organizers told ClevelandUrbanNews.Com and the KathyWrayColemanOnlineNewsBlog.Com yesterday that the march is in response to the horrific abuses of immigrants, their children and families.
In particular, the protest comes in response to President Trump's actions in separating immigrant families at the Mexican border, and otherwise
"The current administration is actively seeking out immigrants to separate their families, and to detain, abuse and deport them," said Kathleen Moser, a key organizer of Cleveland's protest. "They have ripped over 700 children from their parents’ arms in just over two weeks."
Moser said that "the dignity and rights of people are not defined by a piece of paper or documentation."
Families Belong Together opposes the cruel, inhumane and unjustified separation of children from their parents along the U.S. border with Mexico and at other ports of entry into the U.S, the group said in a press release.
Activists are protesting the conditions in which these children are kept.
"We protest the irreversible trauma that has already been perpetrated on these children and their parents for the crime of seeking a better life," said Moyer.
Children as young as 18 months are torn from their mother’s arms by the U.S. government, research shows.
This is violent abuse, say community activists. Activists say that these families are victimized again by the government to which they turn for help.
