CLEVELANDURBANNEWS.COM-CLEVELAND, Ohio-The Golden State Warriors moved closer to winning the NBA Finals Sunday night, defeating the Cleveland Cavaliers 122-103 in game two of the finals, and taking the lead in the series 2-0.

Game three is Wednesday in Cleveland.

The Cavaliers trailed the entire game, and were down by 10 at the beginning of the fourth quarter, the team unable to overcome the greatness of Stephen Curry, and Kevin Durant, and the talent of Drayvon Green and Klay Thompson, the quartet that helped to bring an NBA championship title for the Warriors against the Cavs in 2017.

Curry finished with 33 points, eight assists and seven rebounds, and he was nine of 17 from three point range, breaking Ray Allen's previous record of eight three pointers in an NBA Finals game.

Thompson put up 20 points.

It is the fourth consecutive NBA Finals match up between the Cavs and the Warriors, the Cavs winning the title only in 2016.

The low key Tyron Lue, head coach for the Cavs since 2016, even got technical in the third quarter after responding to what he thought should have been a foul called against the Warriors, and in LeBron James' favor.

Lue said his team needs to be more aggressive.

"We've got to start the game better, being more physical, bringing a physicality, " said Lue. "We didn't do that tonight to start."

A veteran to the NBA finals, James concluded game two with 29 points, nine rebounds and 13 assists.

With 5:44 to go in the fourth quarter, Curry's three pointer but the Warriors up 108-93, and he was fouled too, the exceptional free throw shooter adding another point before the Warriors garnered the largest lead of the night,111-93, an 18-point lead with only 5:15 left in the fourth quarter.

Curry has a career free throw percentage of over 90 percent and is the third leading free throw shooter in the NBA.

He said Sunday that the game two win over Cleveland was primarily because of focus and that focus must be pivotal in game three at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland.

"We gotta  keep that same focus going to Cleveland, and try to get one more win, and then one more win," said Curry. "

The Cavs had cut the lead to five in the third quarter of game two but simply could not regroup.

The Cavs are 8-1 in the post season, losing only game one against Indiana in the opening round of the series. And  they will need the Cleveland fans on Wednesday as they fight to win game three to stay vibrant, the finals, like all of the playoffs series, is the best of seven games.
