CLEVELANDURBANNEWS.COM, CLEVELAND, Ohio- Led by Cleveland Peace Action and supported by Women's March Cleveland, community activists will rally at 1 pm on Sunday, April 15, 2018 on Public Square in downtown Cleveland against war in Syria and U.S. tax policies that harm America's most vulnerable people.

The event, dubbed "No War On Syria Tax Day Rally," comes on the heels of rallies this time last year on Public Square, one on April 13, 2017 led by activist Kathy Wray Coleman and spearheaded by Women's March Ohio/Cleveland against U.S. war in Syria. and the other on April 15, 2017 against U.S. tax policies.

This week the United States, per President Donald Trump and congress, and France and Britain launched missile strikes on Syria following the rebel-held town of Khan Sheikhoun in north-western Syria on April 4.

Congress needs to stop the military actions in Syria and it is not the president's right to commit military action on Syria when Syria has not taken or proposed military action against the United States," said activist Don Bryant (pictured), an organizer of Sunday's upcoming rally.

Kathy Wray Coleman, of Women's March Cleveland and Imperial Women Coalition, said that "women's march rallied for Syrian refugee women and their families and against any U.S attacks on Syria last year on Public Square in Cleveland and we will rally again this year on Public Square as the issues of public concern have broadened with strikes on Syria this week by the United States, Britain and France."

CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -Women's March Ohio members gathered Thursday evening in downtown Cleveland to respond to the crisis in Syria.
"The civil war has been happening for six years in Syria and it just keeps getting worse and worse," said Shayne Terry, Women's March Ohio organizer.
Terry said the government should do more to help Syrian refugees.
"Women's March National has declared that they want the government to allow 75,000 Syrian refugees into the country," she said.
Many of the men and women who gathered in Public Square Thursday called the suspected Syrian chemical attack the final straw.
"What's going on over in Syria is just completely intolerable and we have to accept more of them here because there's no end in sight for what's going on over there," said Lucinda Garmus, Women's March Ohio member.
Garmus, and others, said they're choosing to step up now, in reaction to the recent US-led air strikes in Syria. Many said they want a clear plan from President Donald Trump.
"We don't think we should go bomb a country then allow children to be held hostage before a government that is disenfranchising them," said Kathy Wray Coleman, Imperial Women Coalition head. "It's not land of the free if you keep people out based on suspicion."
Organizers said the downtown Cleveland rally was part of a larger message put together by Women's March National to support Syrian refugees.

Ohio Supreme Court strips chief Cuyahoga County judge of power: Chief and unfair Cuyahoga County Judge John Russo loses authority-Part 2 of a multi-part series on Cuyahoga County public corruption: New Ohio law on seeking possible removal of a municipal court judge in a case for bias or conflict via the filing of an affidavit of prejudice takes authority to decide from chief Cuyahoga County Presiding and Administrative Judge John Russo, other chief common pleas judges in Ohio, and hands it to the chief justice of the Ohio Supreme Court, who also determines affidavits of prejudice filed against common pleas, probate, juvenile, domestic relations, and state appellate court judges....Most affidavits of prejudice are denied regardless of the merits and some judges complained of will retaliate, data show... Community activists, led by Cleveland activist Kathy Wray Coleman of the Imperial Women Coalition, lobbied the Cleveland NAACP for support and asked state legislators via state Rep Bill Patmon (D-10) of Cleveland to change the law but wanted a panel of judges and others to decide when a judge in Ohio is disqualified from hearing a case for bias or conflict....Coleman says she has since been further harassed by Chief Cuyahoga County Judge John Russo, who is White and leads a racist and sexist common pleas court fueled with corruption, malicious prosecutions, excessive criminal bonds, ineffective assistance of counsel to poor and Black defendants, and the mass incarceration of the Black community....By www.clevelandurbannews.com and www.kathywraycolemanonlinenewsblog.com, Ohio's most read digital Black newspapers....This is part 2 of a multi-part series on Cuyahoga County public corruption
