CLEVELANDURBANNEWS.COM, CLEVELAND, Ohio- U.S Sen. Sherrod Brown, a Cleveland Democrat, said earlier this week that he cannot imagine an impeachment conviction trial, such as the pending one against embattled incumbent President Donald Trump, that would proceed in the absence of impeachment witnesses like John Bolton, the Senate poised to decide possibly as early as today if the motion to call witnesses will be granted by the Republican-dominated Senate.

And it is unlikely that any such motion will be granted or that the Republican president will be convicted on charges leveled by a majority Democratic House of Representatives, Trump facing abuse of Congress and obstruction of justice charges regarding his alleged efforts to manipulate federal monies for foreign aid to dig up dirt on political opponents with the help of Ukraine officials.

Only two Republicans, Sens. Mitt Romney of Utah and Susan Collins of Maine said they will vote "yes" on the motion to call additional witnesses in the Senate, the impeachment fiasco reaching closure next week after months of debate in both chambers of Congress.

While Brown has said that he will not vote to block impeachment witnesses from testifying at trial and will vote "yes" in support of the measure, Sen Rob Portman, the other U.S. senator from Ohio, and a Republican, said he will vote "no."

Led by Mayor Frank Jackson, the city's third Black mayor, Cleveland is a largely Black major American city of some 385,000 people, and a Democratic stronghold like the county it belongs to, Cuyahoga County, a 29 percent Black county and the second largest of 88 counties in Ohio, behind Franklin County, which includes Columbus, the state capital.

During this week's impeachment trial, Brown (D-OH) submitted a potent question to House Managers regarding what he says is President Trump perpetuating Russian conspiracy theories and the implications of the president's acquittal if he continues to side with adversaries of the United States.

“Yesterday, you referenced how President Trump’s perpetuating and propagating Russian conspiracy theories undercut our national security objectives," the federal lawmaker's question reads. "If acquitted in the Senate, what would prevent the President from continuing to side with Putin and other adversaries, instead of our intelligence community and career diplomats, and what are the implications on our national security agenda if such behavior continues, unchecked?”

Brown, 67,  has served in the Senate since 2007 and was the U.S. Representative for Ohio's 13th congressional district from 1993 to 2007 and the 47th Secretary of State of Ohio from 1983 to 1991.

He began his political career in 1975 as an Ohio State Representative.

Ohio Supreme Court strips chief Cuyahoga County judge of power: Chief and unfair Cuyahoga County Judge John Russo loses authority-Part 2 of a multi-part series on Cuyahoga County public corruption: New Ohio law on seeking possible removal of a municipal court judge in a case for bias or conflict via the filing of an affidavit of prejudice takes authority to decide from chief Cuyahoga County Presiding and Administrative Judge John Russo, other chief common pleas judges in Ohio, and hands it to the chief justice of the Ohio Supreme Court, who also determines affidavits of prejudice filed against common pleas, probate, juvenile, domestic relations, and state appellate court judges....Most affidavits of prejudice are denied regardless of the merits and some judges complained of will retaliate, data show... Community activists, led by Cleveland activist Kathy Wray Coleman of the Imperial Women Coalition, lobbied the Cleveland NAACP for support and asked state legislators via state Rep Bill Patmon (D-10) of Cleveland to change the law but wanted a panel of judges and others to decide when a judge in Ohio is disqualified from hearing a case for bias or conflict....Coleman says she has since been further harassed by Chief Cuyahoga County Judge John Russo, who is White and leads a racist and sexist common pleas court fueled with corruption, malicious prosecutions, excessive criminal bonds, ineffective assistance of counsel to poor and Black defendants, and the mass incarceration of the Black community....By www.clevelandurbannews.com and www.kathywraycolemanonlinenewsblog.com, Ohio's most read digital Black newspapers....This is part 2 of a multi-part series on Cuyahoga County public corruption
