Cleveland Councilmen Joe Jones and Matt Zone will speak at the 4th Annual Women's March Cleveland event next week and will march with the women, organizers said, the event set for Sat., Jan 18, 2020 beginning at 10:30 am with a rally on the front outside steps of Cleveland City Hall in downtown Cleveland, Ohio.

Speeches are at 10:45 am, and will be followed by a noon march to Public Square.

"We are pleased that Councilmen Joe Jones and Matt Zone will stand with greater Cleveland women in our fight for equal opportunity for women," said Women's March Cleveland key organizer Kathy Wray Coleman, a Black Cleveland activist. "When men step up to the plate to advocate for women's rights and the fair treatment of women it sends a strong message to naysayers."

Councilman of Ward 1 on the city's largely Black east side, the ward that has the second largest voting bloc in the city behind Ward 17, Jones said that "I look forward to speaking at the women's march in Cleveland."

The non-partisan Women's March Cleveland  anniversary event of Jan 18, 2020 will feature Cleveland Rape Crisis Center President and CEO Sondra Miller, state Rep Juanita Brent of Cleveland and the Rev Tony Minor as keynote speakers, and state Sen Nickie Antonio of Lakewood, a women's rights advocate who pushes for public policy changes in the state legislature for the betterment of women and others, is the opening speaker.

The mistresses of ceremonies are Black Women's Political Action President Elaine Gohlstin, and reproductive rights activist Mallory McMaster."

Some 20 greater Cleveland activist groups are also participating and activists will also be among the speakers.

Women's march was initiated nationwide in January 2017 after President Donald Trump was inaugurated where millions of women took to the streets in opposition, Cleveland's  rally and march later this month of which is grassroots organized and independent of the national march,  though organizers say they support the national unity principles and women across the board.

Women's  March Cleveland organizers said the issues range from the policies out of Washington, D.C. and unnecessary wars,  civil, voting and reproductive rights to education, racism, sexism, climate change, equal pay, jobs, taxes, immigration and religious and other bigotry.

Also at issue, said organizers, are healthcare, violence against women, criminal justice reform, excessive force, science and technology, and the LGBTQ community, among a host of other concerns.
