 Blackmon, a former chief Cleveland prosecutor turned appellate judge, and Sykes, the daughter of former state representatives Vernon Sykes and Barbara Sykes, are Black.

 Other event speakers are Democratic Ohio secretary of state candidate state Rep. Kathleen Clyde, and Rachael Crooks, a Democratic candidate for Ohio House District 88.

 Judge Blackmon will receive the organization's trail blazer award,Sykes the legislative achievement award, and Kaptur, the longest serving woman in congress and whose ninth congressional district includes parts of Cleveland, the women making history award.

 "All of the award recipients are exceptional women, and so are the speakers," said Demsey, also an area attorney.
