CLEVELANDURBANNEWS.COM-CLEVELAND, Ohio - Former president Barack Obama, the nation's first Black president, will campaign for Ohio Democratic gubernatorial nominee Richard Cordray in Cleveland on Sept. 13, an evening rally open to the public, organizers said in a press release.

 He will speak at the Cleveland Metropolitan School District East Professional Center Gymnasium at 1349 E. 79th St. in Cleveland at Superior Avenue (The old East High School).

Though it is free and open-to-the public, tickets are required via the campaign for organizing offices.

Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson
Cleveland is a largely Black major American city, and is led by Frank Jackson, the city's third Black mayor, and a Democrat and Obama supporter

A former Ohio attorney general and state treasurer, Cordray is a former Obama administration official and was the director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

He is in a heated race this year for governor against Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine, a former U.S. senator and the Republican nominee for governor

Cordray's lieutenant governor running mate is Betty Sutton, a former Ohio congresswoman who will also attend the rally, organizers said, among other key Democrats.
A University of Chicago Law School graduate and a trained attorney, Cordray, 59, was Obama's first director of his consumer watchdog initiative.
A New York Times story says Cordray was an active watchdog under Obama and that "to Democrats, he was a champion of the public, fighting predatory companies and abusive practices that rip off ordinary people."

CHICAGO— The Nation of Islam, with deep sadness, announced the recent passing of Brother Louis Farrakhan, Jr., the eldest son of the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan and Mother Khadijah Farrakhan. The family was aware of a previous heart condition and it appears that Louis, Jr., passed peacefully in his sleep at the family home in Phoenix, Ariz. He was 60 years old.
