CLEVELAND URBAN NEWS.COM-CLEVELAND, Ohio -Cleveland police are searching for missing 8-year-old Kamiah Levert, a Black girl in danger who has not been seen since the afternoon of July 3 at a park on the city's largely Black east side.
According to police, Kamiah was last seen at 3 p.m. at the Mark Tromba City Park on Mandalay Avenue in the Collinwood neighborhood where she had gone to swim..
Police say that witnesses have said that the Black girl was last seen leaving the park with two other girls.
Anyone with information is asked to immediately contact Cleveland police at 216-623-5418.
Activist Kathy Wray Coleman, who leads the Cleveland-based Imperial Women Coalition, said her group " calls for city officials and law enforcement to work overtime on the 4th of July holiday to find the whereabouts of this innocent Black little girl, and to do more to find missing Black girls and women period."
According to the Black and Missing Foundation, more that 64,000 black women and girls were missing nationwide in 2014, some found, others pf whom remain missing to date.
Statistics since then show similar results as to the epidemic of missing Black women and girls nationwide.
Research from various journals and other sources, including Media Psychology, and Oxford University, reveals that Black missing children and female missing children are significantly underrepresented in television news coverage.
Part of the problem, the research argues, is a lack of newsroom diversity, media and gender bias, and commercial motives.
