CLEVELAND, Ohio-"No Kings, Vote Early" rallies and marches were held across the U.S. On Sat., Oct., 17, 2026, including in Cleveland, a largely Black major American city. Some Black Cleveland activists, however, say the events sponsored in Cleveland are becoming increasingly questionable and run by White people who do not have a vested interest in the city.An event organized by the Cuyahoga Democratic Party and its White-led affiliates that was held at Market Square Park in the Ohio City on Saturday drew hundreds, down from the thousands that originally participated in other events.
But no doubt, the No Kings movement that began in 2025 is losing its gusto as crowds are diminishing and Black groups, who ruled during the Civil Rights Movement of the 60s, are uninvited in place of upper-middle-class White suburbanites who do not have a vested interest in the city of Cleveland.
"White folks want to run the largely Black city of Cleveland, and some of them are anti-Black," said Black Cleveland activist and organizer Kathy Wray Coleman, who leads Women's March Cleveland. "We will not tolerate this type of activity in the 21st Century, and we urge Blacks and others to vote out our Black elected officials who perpetuate this racial animus and divisiveness as poor Blacks continue to struggle financially while establishment types continue to get rich."
