Fudge (OH-11) announced Friday that she will attend two events this week in Cleveland with leaders of Muslim communities in forums that are open-to-the-public. The first event is Tuesday, Feb. 21 at 2 pm at Masjid Bilal, 7401 Euclid Avenue, and the second gathering, both of them of which are on the city's largely Black east side, and of which, in addition to Fudge, will include Muslim and other speakers as well as affiliates of the Ohio ACLU, is Wednesday, Feb. 22 at 10 am at First Cleveland Mosque, 3613 East 131st Street.
The federal lawmaker, one of two Blacks in Congress from Ohio, told Cleveland Urban News.Com, Ohio's most read digital Black newspaper, that she strongly opposes President Donald Trump’s executive order to ban Muslims from seven Muslim oriented countries from entering the United States, a controversial temporary ban now on hold after an appeals court deemed it unconstitutional.
Fudge said that "it is time for the President to do what is right and live up to the promise of America."
Raj Ali of the Cleveland-based Peace in the Hood said she invites everybody to Tuesday's forum with the congresswoman.
"It is open to the public and we encourage everybody to attend," said Ali.
Don Bryant, president of the greater Cleveland Immigrant Support Network, said the discrimination against immigrants is deplorable.
"I will be at the event and we appreciate the opportunity to meet on this issue with Congresswoman Fudge," Bryant told Cleveland Urban News.Com.
