CLEVELAND URBAN NEWS.COM-CLEVELAND, Ohio- Cleveland Browns controversial quarterback Johnny Manziel was waived on Friday, even with two years remaining on his four-year $8,248,596 contract, $7,998,596 of which is guaranteed, absent an applicable breach of contract.

The aforementioned money is at the height of ongoing criticism of Manziel by some mainstream media, sources told Cleveland Urban News.Com, with the Browns angry because Manziel, who allegedly claimed at one point to have a head concussion, is now an unsigned free agent that the Browns possibly owe money to.

A Heisman Trophy winner out of Texas A&M, and the team's 2014 first-round pick, Manziel, 22, spent two seasons with the Browns, winning only two games, and keeping the franchise in the news with his 12-week stint in alcohol rehab, his partying, and his ongoing public feud with  ex-girlfriend Colleen Crowley.

Supporters say that the young quarterback, who played 14 games and started in eight with his two seasons with the Browns, never had a chance because the Browns are a sorry team and have been for decades, Manziel taking much of the heat for a losing team. And he was not the starting quarterback in his first season in 2014 where he played second fiddle to Brian Hoyer, nor for the 2015-16 season, in which Austin Davis was the lead quarterback. 

A native Texan whose grandfather's family migrated to America and got rich in the petroleum industry, Manziel's public life since joining the Browns has been fodder for news outlets.

He was cleared earlier this year by the NFL of possible misconduct relative to a road rage incident involving Crowley, and faces possible misdemeanor assault charges in Texas pertaining to another high-profile altercation the couple had. 

New Browns head coach Hue Jackson, who is Black and replaced Mike Pettine, who was fired in January along with then general manager Ray Farmer, said that Manziel's replacement will be chosen in the upcoming 2016 NFL Draft.

Owner Jimmy Haslam fired Pettine and Farmer hours after a 28-12 loss to arch rival Pittsburgh Steelers on January 3, and following a second straight losing season. (www.clevelandurbannews.com) / (www.kathywraycolemanonlinenewsblog.com)
