The Imperial Women, Black on Black Crime Inc., Survivors and Victims of Tragedy, The County Grand Jury.Org, The Carl Stokes Brigade, Stop Targeting Ohio's Poor and other organizations represented at a rally in Cleveland Hts yesterday thank Channels 3, 5 and 8 for covering and reporting on it, with a special thanks to Fox 8 News Anchor and Reporter Bill Shiel, Channel 3 Managing Editor, Anchorman and Reporter Dick Russ, and the cameramen from news television channels 3, 5 and 8.

Sowell is charged with kidnapping, raping and murdering 11 Black women whose remains were uncovered at his home on Imperial Ave. in Cleveland on Halloween day in 2009, among a host of other charges, including the alleged rape of Gladys Wade , who got away, and a 41-year-old woman allegedly abducted in Cleveland Hts and taken to his home where she was repeatedly raped. (Call the Imperial Women at 216-932-3114 for more information on the upcoming Sowell House Rally at 123rd and Imperial Ave. Take Kinsman Ave. from downtown Cleveland, turn left onto E. 123rd St and go about three blocks to Imperial Ave).
Reporters admit that there is no evidence to date that Sowell's DNA from 15 years in prison on a former attempted rape conviction was not in the system to cross reference it as state officials allege. Activists believe that that disposition by state authorities is a complete cover up for Cleveland Hts police not arresting him in April 2009 after doing a rape kit on a woman that says she was abducted in Cleveland Hts. and then allegedly raped by Sowell repeatedly at his home.
The Imperial Women also thank Community Activist Art McKoy for helping to organize and lead Thursday's rally. And we thank Cleveland Hts police for permitting a peaceful rally. Thanks also to Ariella Brown, who represented the office of U.S. Rep. Marcia L. Fudge (D-OH). Brown spoke and presented resolutions on behalf of the congresswoman, and in her rally speech she highlighed the need for public policy makers and others to be sensitive to issues of rape in this country, particularly against women .
