Led by Councilman Joe Jones, the largely Black east side Ward 1 is Cleveland's largest Black voting bloc with its staunch middle class segment of voters.
"I will be at the event on Saturday," said Jones. "I am coming to support the organizer, Ms. Dionne "Lady D" Buchanan, who has been active and dedicated to our community for over 40 years."
Lady D spearheaded the Lady D Drill Team and Drum Corps for decades, often spending her own money to give Black children and teens a vehicle to express their talents and to stay out of trouble.
Others associated with the annual community day event that began in 1988 are Arvin Pratt, Marie Foster, Vernon and Wendy Henderson, and Gloria Little.
"Everyone is invited to our annual family unity day at the park," said Buchanan.

The Lee-Harvard neighborhood was the Miles Heights Village and the Lee-Seville neighborhood many years ago before it became an integrated community.
Ohio’s first African-American mayor, Arthur Johnston, for whom the Arthur Johnson Park is named, was elected mayor of the Miles Heights Village in 1929 when the neighborhood was mostly White and is Ohio's first African-American mayor, technically. (Editor's note: The late Carl B. Stokes, a former Cleveland judge and the brother and only sibling of the late former congressman Louis Stokes, was the first mayor of Cleveland and of a major American city).
