The Imperial Women met Sunday, Nov. 29 and voted unanimously to present its demands at the press conference set for Monday Nov. 30. 2009 on the steps of Cleveland City Hall between 7:20 pm - 7:30 p.m.
All 13 women at the meeting voted following a request by activist Donna Brown for a representative at the meeting to speak at Monday's press conference. The Imperial Women (more that 13) will sit in solidarity at the silent protest at Cleveland City Council meeting prior to the press conference and will present to the media and also in writing our demands which we voted on in a unanimous fashion at the meeting today that include the following: 1) The firings by Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson of Chief of Police Michael Mcgrath, Law Director Robert Triozzi, Safety Director Martin Flask and Chief Prosecutor Victor Perez; 2) A public records report of all rape complaints filed with the city over the past 10 years and those deemed not credible by race, age and gender; 3) An investigation of police, Perez, Triozzi, Mcgrath, Flask and the health department around the Imperial Ave. Murders and the failure to prosecute Anthony Sowell in 2008 in spite of blood and a struggle at his home as to a Black woman's complaint of alleged rape; 4) That minorities are in leadership roles in the law enforcement arenas and top consequential positions where the law director, safety director, chief prosecutor chief of police, health director, ems commissioner, deputy ems commissioner and chief of staff are all non- Black and all non-female in a majority Black and predominantly female major metropolitan city; and,5) The adoption of ordinances around the Imperial Ave. murders that include quick response times to missing persons, and an Imperial Alert where authorities are directed not to render any Black woman or others not credible based upon race, age, gender, socioeconomic status or background.
We stand in solidarity and will not be moved. The Imperial Women also voted today to withdraw its demand that former acting Chief of Police Mary Bounds replace Chief Mcgrath instead agreeing to review a list of potential candidates sensitive to women, the Black community and others with subsequent follow-up. We thank the media for its coverage of the Imperial Ave. Murders and would hope that our good faith agenda is worthy of further attention in our fight for equal opportunity and equal justice for all people in the greater Cleveland community, including those in the city of Cleveland.
