CLEVELAND, Ohio-Women's March Cleveland will participate in the National Day of Action called by Women's March National for June 24, 2023 with a noon rally and 1:30 pm march on the steps of City Hall in downtown Cleveland,  Ohio, a sister march to a march in Washington, D.C. and marches slated in cities nationwide for this weekend. June 24, 2023 marks a year since Roe v Wade, the 1973 landmark decision that made abortion legal nationwide, was overturned by the U.S. Supreme Court in the case of Dobbs vs Jckaon Women's Health Organization. Saturday's march in Cleveland event is titled "Women's March Cleveland's A Year without Roe March for Women," and will include elected officials and activists as speakers , including Ohio state Sen. Nickie Antonio, state Reps Juanita Brent and Phil Robinson,  Cleveland City Council President Blaine Griffin, Cuyahoga County executive Chris Ronayne Democratic Party Chairman David Brock, city of leveland community relations director and adviser to Mayor Bibb Angela Shute Woodson,  and activists Genevieve Mitchell. Maosha Maybach Vales, Alfred porter Jr., and Lee Thompson.

Also at issue are racism, sexism, heinous violence against women and State issue 1,which will be on the Aug 8 ballot throughout Ohio where voters are being asked to approve a constitutional amendment that would raise the threshold to pass future constitutional amendments in Ohio from a simple majority to a super majority, or  60 percent of voters. Women's March Cleveland and abortion advocates say that Ohio's conservative GOP-led state legislature put State Issue 1 on the ballot  this summer in hopes of derailing a possible ballot issue for abortion on the November ballot.

"We  urge women in greater Cleveland and their supporters to join us on Saturday, June 24 on the steps of Cleveland City Hall as we rally and march for women's rights," said Women's March Cleveland head organizer Kathy Wray Coleman, also a longtime community activist who leads the Imperial Women Coalition, an activist group founded around the murders of 11 Black women  on Imperial Avenue in Cleveland by the late serial killer Anthony Sowell, who purportedly died in prison from a terminal illness in 2021.

Coleman said that "the unconstitutional denial of abortion access to women in Ohio will disproportionately impact poor women, Black women and other women of color and our enemies know this full well."She added that "our greatest defenses are the ballot box and taking to the streets in droves to get our voices heard."

In the year following last year's Supreme court Dobbs decision that overturned the court's
Roe v Wade ruling , new legislation on abortion has been swift. Fourteen states have near-total abortion bans during any point in pregnancy in effect, and six states have implemented abortions bans with other limits from six to 20 weeks after a person’s last menstrual period. Ohio has a six-week abortion ban dubbed "the heartbeat bil" that is on hold per a judge's ruling as abortion advocates hope to get abortion on the ballot in Ohio followed by support from Ohio voters for it to be enshrined into the constitution.

Ohio Supreme Court strips chief Cuyahoga County judge of power: Chief and unfair Cuyahoga County Judge John Russo loses authority-Part 2 of a multi-part series on Cuyahoga County public corruption: New Ohio law on seeking possible removal of a municipal court judge in a case for bias or conflict via the filing of an affidavit of prejudice takes authority to decide from chief Cuyahoga County Presiding and Administrative Judge John Russo, other chief common pleas judges in Ohio, and hands it to the chief justice of the Ohio Supreme Court, who also determines affidavits of prejudice filed against common pleas, probate, juvenile, domestic relations, and state appellate court judges....Most affidavits of prejudice are denied regardless of the merits and some judges complained of will retaliate, data show... Community activists, led by Cleveland activist Kathy Wray Coleman of the Imperial Women Coalition, lobbied the Cleveland NAACP for support and asked state legislators via state Rep Bill Patmon (D-10) of Cleveland to change the law but wanted a panel of judges and others to decide when a judge in Ohio is disqualified from hearing a case for bias or conflict....Coleman says she has since been further harassed by Chief Cuyahoga County Judge John Russo, who is White and leads a racist and sexist common pleas court fueled with corruption, malicious prosecutions, excessive criminal bonds, ineffective assistance of counsel to poor and Black defendants, and the mass incarceration of the Black community....By www.clevelandurbannews.com and www.kathywraycolemanonlinenewsblog.com, Ohio's most read digital Black newspapers....This is part 2 of a multi-part series on Cuyahoga County public corruption
