Official Women's March Cleveland Anniversary: Jan 19, 2019.

CLEVELANDURBANNEWS.COM, WASHINGTON, D.C.-Democratic U.S. House of Representatives Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi has announced her intention to restore the Elections Subcommittee of the Committee on House Administration in the 116th Congress when she becomes Speaker and to name 11th Congressional District Congresswoman Marcia L. Fudge, a Warrensville Heights Democrat whose largely Black congressional district includes Cleveland, the subcommittee chairwoman.

Pelosi who will take the reigns as Speaker of the House next year after the Democrats, via the November election, reclaimed control of the House from Republicans. a definitive vote in the house on the Speaker of which is set for early January.

A San Francisco Democrat and the first woman to lead a majority party in congress, Pelosi said she looks forward to working with Fudge in her new role.

“Throughout her 20 years of public service Congresswoman Marcia Fudge has been a relentless advocate for the right of every citizen to vote, and for all votes to be counted as cast," Pelosi said in a statement." During her time in congress, Congresswoman Fudge has been a driving force in our voter protection efforts, including in her leadership as chair of the Congressional Black Caucus."

Fudge is one of two Blacks in congress from Ohio, along with Rep. Joyce Beatty of Columbus.

The Subcommittee on Elections handles federal election-related issues, including oversight of the Federal Elections Commission (FEC) and the Elections Assistance Commission (EAC), and is responsible for contested elections under the Federal Contested Elections Act.

Jurisdiction  of the subcommittee also extends to the Help America Vote Act (HAVA), the Federal Election Campaign Act, the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act, and the Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act (UOCAVA).
A trained lawyer and former assistant Cuyahoga County prosecutor, Fudge, who contemplated a run for Speaker of the House but later decided she would instead endorse Pelosi for the powerful role, has said that  she is ready for the post due, in part, to obvious interference with the 2016 presidential election, a heated election that saw Democrat Hillary Clinton lose to current president Donald Trump, a Republican.
The House Administration Subcommittee on Elections was a subcommittee within the House Committee on House Administration, created in 2007 at the start of  the 110th Congress.

But it was was eliminated in 2013, and Pelosi said she intends to restore the subcommittee as soon as she becomes House Speaker.
Pelosi said the Florida and Georgia gubernatorial races that saw Black Democrats Andrew Gillum and Stacey Abrams lose close elections to their Republican opponents in the midst of claims of voting irregularities, are all the more a reason the House should restore the subcommittee at issue.
“Unfortunately, House Republicans eliminated this critical subcommittee in 2013," said Pelosi. "And sadly, the appalling conduct we have witnessed in Florida, Georgia and too many other places during this [past November] election has once again underscored the absolute necessity of this subcommittee’s establishment in the first place, to combat brazenly partisan efforts to turn back the clock and erect barriers to voting for historically disenfranchised communities."
Pelosi said that "protection of the vote is well served by House Democrats and is needed at this crucial time when the vote is under assault. "
