CLEVELAND URBAN NEWS.COM-TOLEDO, Ohio - Ohio 9th Congressional District Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur (OH-9), a Toledo Democrat whose congressional district extends to Lorain and Cleveland, Ohio, announced Thursday that she will join pre-school children in Toledo, Lorain and Cleveland on Friday, March 31 for a reading tour to kick-off her "Read to Succeed" initiative (Editor's note: Go to the end of this article for specific times and places in Toledo, Cleveland and Lorain that the congresswoman will read with Ohio's pre-school children, the Cleveland event of which will occur at 3:30 pm at  Gordon Square Early   Learning Center, 5209 Detroit Avenue) CLICK HERE TO GO TO THE WEBSITE OF CONGRESSWOMAN MARCY KAPTUR FOR MORE INFORMATION ON THE READ TO SUCCEED INITIATIVE

The congressman is also inviting parents, grandparents, caring adults, and youth from across Northern Ohio to participate in a new "Read to Succeed" challenge. 

"Read to Succeed" is an initiative to encourage children and adults to read together, and in doing so the community is ensuring that its youth are prepared to read," said Kaptur in a press release to Cleveland Urban News.Com, Ohio's most read digital Black newspaper

"Experts say that a child should be well on his or her way to
knowing 4,000 words by kindergarten," Congresswoman Kaptur said. "The "Read to Succeed" initiative will serve as a resource for our communities to make sure the children in our region begin their reading adventure as early as possible."

The federal lawmaker said that "reading is a very important part of our lives, and our children's success in school depends on it."

"Just 20 minutes each day to read with children can have an important impact on academic success," said Kaptur.

The longest serving woman in congress, Kaptur said that  by reading kids can "discover the magic in books."

The congresswoman will meet March 31 in Toledo at Toledo Public Library, 325 Michigan Street to read with preschoolers there and then at1:30 pm in Lorain at the Lorain County Community Action Agency, Hopkins-Locke Head Start, 1050 Reid Avenue.

The Cleveland reading tour stop is at 3: 30 pm at the Centers for Families and Children, Gordon Square Early Learning Center, 5209 Detroit Avenue.
