Cleveland Ward 1 To Decide Today Whether Pinkey Carr Will Be Endorsed Over Cleveland Judge Lynn-McLaughlin Murray For Nov Election

The City of Cleveland's Ward 1 will decide today if it will endorse Assistant Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Pinkey Carr for the seat left open on the Cleveland Municipal Court by Kathleen Ann Keough, who came under fire for harassing Blacks and women, violating the law, and taking police cases and other law enforcement cases in order to harass Black defendants for Cleveland Law Director Robert Triozzi and others.

The seat is currently held by Cleveland Municipal Court Judge Lynn McLaughlin-Murray, a virtually unknown woman appointed last month by former Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland to complete the unexpired term left by the election of Cleveland Municipal Court Judge Kathleen Ann Keough to the Ohio Eighth District Court of Appeals in Nov. Strickland was defeated by Republica Ohio Gov. John Kasich . She quickly garnered criticism from women's' groups that claim she is another Keough put in place to continue her harassment to the detriment of the Black community.

In order to hold on to the seat McLaughlin-Murray must win the general election in Nov.

“We urge Ward 1 Councilman Terrell Pruitt and Ward 1 not to endorse McLaughlin-Murray,” said Kathy Wray Coleman, a leader of the Imperial Women. “Data reveal that she is not good for either women or the Black community and that she has no respect for the law.”

Coleman said that research reveals that McLaughlin-Murray is revoking bonds and issuing warrants against Blacks and women without the bond forfeiture hearing required to be scheduled before a neutral magistrate by Cleveland Municipal Clerk of Court Earle Turner per the local rules of the Cleveland Municipal Court. Additionally, said Coleman, the judge is scheduling hearings and not telling Black defendants what type of hearing it is to trick them to appearing for the wrong reason so that she can illegally jail them. She is also, said Coleman, usurping the role of the magistrate to hold bond forfeiture hearings allegedly so that she can deny them and target Blacks that political operatives and corrupt non-Black judges want her to target, allegedly in exchange for judicial support for her upcoming run to hold on to the seat.

Both Carr and McLaughlin-Murray will meet with Ward 1 operatives and Pruitt today at 6 pm at the Lee-Harvard Community Center in Cleveland, 3970 Lee Rd. The event is open to the public. Both have sent letters to Ward 1 residents seeking support, though Carr lives in the community and is expected to get the endorsement.

Coleman said that the Imperial Women will be watching to see if Jackson, the Black press, and Cleveland NAACP President George Forbes endorse an unfair White judge like McLaughlin-Murray while refusing to endorse qualified Black women in this year's upcoming judicial elections as they did relative to the elections for judges held last year where all three Black women that sought judgeships lost.

Carr already has the endorsement of Cleveland Ward 8 Councilman Jeff Johnson and several other Black leaders, but Coleman says the establishment is lobbying for McLaughin-Murray, who is White, allegedly so that they will have a venue to maliciously prosecute their enemies with a judge that has no respect for the law and will do what they and the police unions say.
