Taylor, who is resigning from the post she has held since 2007,  effective  Jan 1,  to return to her hometown of Detroit to work in the private sector, a spokesperson for the mayor told  reporters .  The mayor is at the end of a second four-year-term and has said that he will seek reelection next year.
