By his mere presence on a consistent basis in contrast to previous owner Randy Lerner, fans, players and management know there is a new sheriff in town. By his optimistic expectation to establish a winner, Haslam has reinvigorated Browns fans.   So when the season 5-11 record drew to a merciful end last year

By Cleveland Urban News.Com Sports Writer Karl Kimbrough CLEVELAND, Ohio-The Cleveland Browns came back Sunday from a week off with a new attitude in playing against the Dallas Cowboys, a game that went into overtime, though the Browns lost 23-20.  In most of the first nine games of this season the Browns had been starting the game like first half  doesn't count, being out scored going into halftime in practically every game. But against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday Cleveland had a 13 point lead at the end of the first half. The Browns shutout Dallas in the first half, and shut them down playing with a purpose, and with intensity not seen from them this year.  The Browns dominated the line of scrimmage offensively and defensively and scored a rare first quarter touchdown after a 10 play 48 yard drive.  Quarterback Brandon Weeden threw a ten yard touchdown to Ben Watson. and then scored on two  field goals from Phil Dawson in the second quarter after drives

Karl Kimbrough, Sports Writer By Karl Kimbrough, Cleveland Urban News.Com Sports Writer ( www.clevelandurbannews.com ) CLEVELAND, Ohio-After a losing 2011 NFL football season where the Cleveland Browns won only four out of 16 games, the coaches identified the offense as priority in building a winning team.   By using their first three picks in the 2011 NFL draft on offensive players and fourth and second round supplemental draft picks on wide receivers, the Browns began to reshape their offense. The first two draft picks in the first round were used to acquire a top rated running back and quarterback. So, after one quarter of the 2012 season has been played, have these picks helped the Browns? If wins is the barometer, then the answer is a resounding no as the Browns have begun the season with four losses in a row. Last year the Browns averaged 13.6 points per game for the entire season: This year, through four games, they have averaged 18 points.  So, Browns fans

By Karl Kimbrough, Sports Writer, Cleveland Urban News.Com The first 4:57 seconds of the Browns game against the New York Giants on Sunday seemed too surreal to be true with the Browns having a commanding 12-0 lead over the 2011 Super Bowl Champion Giants.  Unfortunately for the Cleveland Browns and their fans it was too real to be true. In their four previous games, the Browns' scored a total of six points in the first quarter. Could the Browns be turning their fortunes around?  Before the end of the first h

How can the Cleveland Browns draft NFL football players for team success? Should more focus be given to players drafted in mid-rounds?

Image
By Karl Kimbrough, Guest Sports Columnist, Cleveland Urban News.Com www.clevelandurbannews.com ) CLEVELAND, Ohio-The NFL draft has become such a huge theatrical event that in most cities across the country, including Cleveland where the Cleveland Browns are center stage, football fans are glued to their television sets to see who gets the potential star players. But should more focus be given to mid-round draft players since a team can not function on first and second round draftees alone? Fans are mainly interested in those players who are projected to be drafted in the first round. From February until draft day in April there is so much talk about the potential top 10 players that we feel as though we must have one. A lot of the attention that is given to the draft is based on hype from the media and high grades or ratings given by draft gurus. However, this
