CLEVELAND URBAN NEWS-COM, EUCLID Ohio- Greater Cleveland community activists, led by Black Lives Matter Cleveland, will attend the city of Euclid City Council meeting this evening, Mon., Aug 21, 2017, to express concerns over the beating nearly a week  ago by a White Euclid cop of Richard Hubbard, 25, a malicious beating that went viral, and of a Black motorist. ( See dash-cam footage  here).

Organizers said that activists will rally from 6pm to 8 pm, though the city council meeting does not begin until 7 pm.

Also at issue is the fatal police shooting in March by officer Matthew Rhodes of Luke O. Stewart, 23, whom Euclid police killed investigating a report of a suspicious vehicle in the area of South Lakeshore Boulevard and East 215th Street, Euclid police said.

Stewart is also Black and racial unrest is mounting relative to his death too, his family members upset and blaming police for what they say is excessive force.

Like Hubbard, he was unarmed. And he left behind two young children.

Police say that Stewart allegedly tried to run them over with his car, a claim his family members say is likely bogus.

"They have a right to demonstrate and express their feelings," said Euclid Councilwoman Stephana Caviness, one of two Blacks on the eight-member largely White Euclid City Council. " Whatever else I have to say will be said during my speaking portion at the meeting tonight."

Euclid Mayor Kirsten Gail said in a press release that  “we have policies and procedures in place to ensure that all use of force by police are both lawful and justified. I can assure you the incident will be reviewed thoroughly and appropriate action will be taken.”

Police pulled Hubbard over Saturday morning, Aug 12, saying the car he was driving rolled through and intersection, though a dash cam video that went viral shows that one of the cops immediately began beating him.

He had a suspended driver's license, police said.

It was a routine traffic stop, police said, ignoring the fact that the Black young man was beaten unmercifully.

He was allegedly  resisting, police said, a comment in direct contradiction to the dash cam video.

Officer Michael Amiott, who is on administrative leave with pay, is seen on the dash cam punching Hubbard several times while he was on the ground with his partner watching.

Witnesses said they were dismayed by the incident.

Hubbard was taken to the Cuyahoga County Jail and ultimately posted bond on charges of driving under suspension and resisting arrest, charges he denies.

Euclid is a middle class Cleveland suburb of some 50,000 people that is 26 percent Black and has a median household income of $37,000.
