CLEVELAND URBAN NEWS.CLEVELAND, Ohio-Led by NBA megastar LeBron James, the Cleveland Cavaliers on Friday nabbed the Eastern Conference Finals, beating the Toronto Raptors 113-87 in Game 6 of the conference series to advance to the NBA Finals.
The Cavs grabbed the conference title with ease and finished with a 4-2 games match-up record against the Raptors, all series requiring a win of four of a possible seven games.
The Cavs will play either the Golden State Warriors, who denied them a championship title last year, or the Oklahoma City Thunder, both Western Conference teams that are fighting it out for the Western Conference title.
James finished Game 6 with 33 points, 11 rebounds and six assists, followed by Kyrie Irving, who scored 30 points and was 12- of -24 from the field.
Kevin Love posted 20 points and was three- of -eight in three points shooting.
James, Irving and Love scored 83 points combined to take the team over the top.
Cavs head coach Tyron Lue, who is Black, said that James set the tone early on and that it was "beautiful to watch."
An Akron, Ohio native and NBA's most valuable player in 2009, 2010, 2012 and 2013, James was drafted by the Cavaliers in 2003 as the first overall pick and led Cleveland to its first NBA Finals appearance in 2007, though they lost to San Antonio Spurs. He joined the Miami Heat in 2010 and brought home two consecutive championship titles in 2012 and 2013 before rejoining the Cavs last year.
Speaking during a televised post-game press conference, James said Friday that the Cavs must win the championship to be deemed great and that team togetherness is key.
"We truly care for one another both on and off the floor and this is the results of it," said James relative to the conference title win.
Irving said that the championship title is foremost.
"We are still not satisfied," said Irving. "We still have a goal to accomplish."
This is the second straight year the Cavs have made it to the NBA Finals, with Love and Irving out with injuries last year in the loss to the Warriors.
Coming into the conference finals the Cavs were confident after sweeping the in the opening series Detroit Pistons and then ousting the Atlanta Hawks in round two of the series, also with a four-game sweep.
